Lois Price Spratlen and Thaddeus Spratlen honored by University of Washington
The Board of Regents at the University of Washington changed the name of Madrona Hall on the UW campus this summer to honor Lois Price Spratlen and Thaddeus Spratlen.
The Thaddeus and Lois Spratlen Hall was christened following commencement exercises in recognition of their significant achievements as members of the UW community. The celebration of the honorific took place on July 7 with an audience including all five of Thaddeus and Lois’s children.
Lois Price Spratlen Foundation president Elaine Walsh, PhD, RN, PMHCNS-BC, had the honor of speaking briefly about Dr. Price Spratlen and the inspiration that her legacy continues to provide for advanced practice psychiatric nurses. Connie Huffine, Foundation co-founder, was also in attendance.
Lois and Thaddeus were trailblazers in advocating for underrepresented minorities and under-served communities. Both served as mentors and role models for students of color and inspired a greater commitment to diversity and inclusion at the University of Washington. Thaddeus passed away in 2021 and Lois in 2012, but their memory and legacy live on.
